WAP Infrastructure

The WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) service, which enables you to connect to the mobile internet network, is virtually no longer in use today and is being replaced by more advanced technologies.

If you are still using this service, we recommend that you change your settings before 29.09.2024.

What is WAP?

WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) revolutionised access to information by enabling mobile phones and other handheld devices to connect to the Internet in the late 1990s.

This protocol acts as a "translator", adapting complex Internet web pages to a format compatible with a mobile phone or other small wireless handheld device.

What are the alternatives to WAP?

If you are still using the WAP service, we recommend that you change your settings before 29.09.2024.
Modern technologies, which offer much higher performances and are suited to the growing need for mobile Internet access:

1. Buy a more recent phone: choose a model that can handle modern technologies including 3G, 4G and 5G.
This may be necessary if your phone cannot support any technology other than WAP.

2.  Configure your current phone to use 3G or 4G:

  • Go to your phone settings
  • Search for "Mobile data networks" (Android) / "Cellular data" (Apple)
  • Change the access point name (see images)
  • Save the changes and restart your phone

Everything you need to know about the end of the WAP service

The WAP infrastructure is based on outdated solutions that are incapable of adapting to changes in Internet standards and the growing capabilities of mobile phones.

WAP pages are slow and static, offering laborious navigation and a user experience far inferior to that offered by modern web browsers...

This is why the shutdown of the WEB infrastructure is scheduled.
